This morning at 9, I was on my way to class and I plugged in my ear piece on my w810i phone and tuned in to FM 94.0 for FlyFm like I always did ever since I lost my laptop. That's where I got to know about Fly Fm's Cash Call where you text in CASH to 33399 and wait for the DJs of Fly Fm to select and random number and call you, the only thing you have to do was answer "Fly Fm" and voila, you're a few hundred (or thousand) ringgit richer.
So I text in "Cash" to 33399 at 9am, and then I got into class. I got a phone call at 9.25am, my phone was not in silent mode and it rang like a SIREN while my lecturer was explaining Laplace Transform on circuit applications on the white board with all eyes on me.
It was then I made the mistake of my life that I would never forget,
my screwed up hand automatically reached into my pocket, got out my phone and NO THANKS to reflex muscles, pressed the "busy" button. It was then I realized, I made the BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE, with a push of a button.
All I could hope afterwards was Phat fabes and Ben on The Pagi Show would call me back. It never happened. I then plugged in my ear piece and tuned in to 94.0 and there it was, a lady won the cash prize instead and to make things even more heart-breaking, it was a 4-digit figure. That lady on air could have been me (first stab through my heart).
How did I know the number was from Fly Fm? I called back the number later on, praying to GOD it wasn't from Fly Fm. Basil answered on Fly Fm's Must Have Music slot after The Pagi Show and confirmed the number was indeed from Fly Fm. To make it more hard on me, he used our phone conversation in the show afterwards telling Fly Fm listeners of Malaysia how Desmond missed his chance at the prize money (second stab).
I've even got the call register on my phone to prove it, 03-77241144.
I guess I'm really REALLY malang, as if the world's misfortune accumulated and landed on my head like a meteor rock, particularly during these 2 weeks. I had really hoped that the Cash Call would win me some cash to get a new laptop after mine got stolen last week so I wouldn't have to worry about where I would get the money. Thinking back, I mean what are the odds of picking my sms among ALL the Malaysian Listeners on Fly Fm? It just aches me just by mentioning it.
I still can't shake off that breaking moment. I can't concentrate on my tests tomorrow and I can't help but think what would happen if I answered "Fly Fm" knowing that I've never won anything this big before. Although I still want to believe that it is a pre-april fool's joke, I just can't fool myself.
What would you do if u were in my shoes? In need of advice.
