stolen

I guess the blog title pretty much says it all. Yes ladies and gentlemen, my laptop was stolen, along with my roomate's as well on Monday between 11.00am to 4.30pm. A burglary to be exact.

This is a photo snapped a year ago of my laptop before we relocated to the new hostel.

When we got back from class at 4.30pm, the main door and our room door was locked and we used our keys to unlock them like we always did. Once inside the room, the air was still and there was an emptiness feeling inside. Kam wah and me stared at each other and we asked "where's our laptop?". We realized the worst and well, there's nothing we could do about it.

So we notified the officer's in charge of the hostel and filed a police report at the local police station (and yes I still did manage to snap a few shots in spite of the ordeal).

we were told "internet down lah", although in my head I was thinking "server problems".

I wouldn't want to comment in the police's ineptness because THAT could be a single entry alone by itself. We made our statements and there was it.

The burglar even had the "decency" of locking our doors before leaving the crime scene. However, I was rather amused at their level of stupidity of taking my other roomate's (I have 2 roomates) laptop adapter which had the words "DELL" printed on the adapter when my laptop was modeled as "Compaq" printed on my laptop lid. I guess thieves won't be a thieves if they actually knew how to make use of their testicle-sized brains.

I still love Homer Simpson, "doh~!"

One thing noted to myself though, I realized that me trying letting go the bits and pieces in life that stands between me and what the universe has in store for me to be a happier person has started to show it's influence on how I see things now. Neither am I mad, sad or emotionally stirred like how I would be a year ago if my laptop was stolen then, I think would go crazy like a "mad-cow-disease" patient (figure of speech) and might put in a few swears.

The only thing I kinda felt sad about is the photos that I took for the past 2 years from my university life back then is gone, but not to worry, I still have this blog and you guys (as cheesy as it sounds, blehh...)

So all readers there in blog-buddy-land, sad to say this but I won't be updating my blog that frequent onwards, but I will still blog occasionally, just not that often.

p/s: thanks to all that messaged me about my stolen laptop and your concerns. I'm fine, really.

If the thief locked the door, it seems like it could be an inside job - someone with a copy of your key, or the master key (most hostels have a master key that opens EVERY door).

Would the thief be able to know that you left your laptop out in the open?

If not, it's also likely the thief used his key to open every room to look.

Picking a lock is doable, but not that easy. Even locksmiths prefer not to lock pick. Using the credit card thing is possible, but also not that easy with modern locks. You would have to bend and force the credit card into the slit between the door and frame and try your luck at wedging the bolt open.

If I were you, I would set up a webcam (RM50-RM150 only), and get it to upload or email a snapshot whenever it detects movement in the room. There are tons of motion-detection software out there, some bundled with the webcam, some even freeware. Wouldn't it be sweet to have a photo of the fucker trying his luck in your room again?

hey feli, yea as a matter of fact we have to move out during our 3rd year which happens to be next semester, yea, new laptop, trying to be optimistic during this time..

hey dingh, thanks for the comments, well I think that I could overrule my housemates because they're also my coursemates who happened to be in the same class as me when I wasn't at home.. I guess the only explanation is using card slots.. my room is actually facing the opposite side of a block so probably the person has been aiming it for a while now...
