Kuching from Civic Centre

It was a usual sunday afternoon, just left from my dad's place and wandered around Kuching like I always did. It was kinda like the only few hours that I have in the whole week as I'm always at the office at till 5 on weekdays and on weekends, saturday afternoons were just too "crowded" or jammed for me.

So I drove around and wandered, wasting fuel and driving to places that have significant recollections of my life like how I did every other sundays. Then I drove past the Civic Centre and decided to see whether the viewing bay on the top of the centre was opened on sundays and thankfully it did. So I parked my car then approached the elevator and then realized the dreadful thought of going up the elevator while looking down at 200 feet in mid-air and the only thing that prevents me from falling out of the elevator and plunging to my death is the sheet of thin glass! If the elevator malfunctioned in mid-air, I think I'll faint and die on the spot... seriously.

This is a photo I shot from inside the elevator while going up the tower. I was so nervous I didn't even dare to take more photos and just wanted to grasp on the railing support at the side.

Then at the viewing bay, I started snapping more shots.

The bird's eye view of the landscape in Kuching was simply breath-taking.

A view of Sarawak General Hospital situated at the most ironic location, Jalan Hospital. This place brings back heaps and heaps of memories. Other than the last memories of my mom, I remembered one year, I visited the hospital 3 times in a month visiting 3 different people. Gosh, talking about a streak of bad luck. Tears were shed, hearts were brokened, relief was felt, and laughter was heard, all in that hospital.

The traffic going to the town area.

The blue and tall pointy structure at the center of the photo is the Majilis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS) building at Jalan Ang Cheng Ho, in walking proximity of my industrial training.

Some other buildings at the town area. Star Cineplex, Hilton, Wisma Ting Pek King, Crown Plaza etc.

This is the Sarawak Club, just opposite Civic Centre. It's mostly for those privilleged people who have nothing to do in their spare time, once even the Queen of England visited here on a visit to Kuching. A year ago, I heard this place was blazed down in a fire due to some gas explosion, but now it's been rebuilt. With a monthly 4-figured membership fee, this club is equipt with a swimming pool, sports facilities, restaurant, dining/conference/meeting rooms, lounge, library etc. just to name a few. Owh, and it's strictly for members only. I remembered being here a few times with friends who were members, apparently members were allowed to bring outsiders.

This is the Amphitheatre, also located in walking distance is the place where the movie carnival from Star Cineplex is held last year, concerts, talks, events are mostly held there. Usually visitors would bring newspapers or plastic sheets to sit on. I still remembered me being there for Stephen Tong's Gospel Rally a few years back then when my faith was still blindly intact (don't ask).

I really miss Kuching a lot. If you realized in all the photos, you would always see green landscapes with trees and grasses. A trademark of Kuching itself, probably that's why I love Kuching so much.

p/s: don't know how does civic centre looks like? here's an entry from a blog that snapped a shot of civic centre from sarawak club.
